Widowed Mother of 4
Myelodysplastic Syndrome (Pre Leukemia)
Alonna Sofie is 32 years old and one of the kindest women anyone could ever have the privilege of knowing. She is a loving mother of four young children. Mike, who is thirteen; Harley, who is nine; Mercedes, who is just three; and Eloise who is one year old. She is a conscientious and admirable mom who devotes herself to her children.
Until March of 2012, her life was like that of any other young mother. On March 25, 2012, Alonna was admitted to the hospital for what was believed to be a MRSA infection. After almost a full month as an inpatient, Alonna received news that no one, especially a young mother should have to hear. She had Myelodysplasia, a cancer previously known as Pre-Leukemia. Even worse, the disease was in its late stages. The diagnosis not only shocking, but devastating to Alonna, her friends, and her family. There are few young families fully prepared for a catastrophic event like this. Especially this one. She is without health insurance and the medical and related expenses are already overwhelming.
Thinking of her beautiful children, Alonna immediately started a very aggressive chemotherapy and began a fight for her life. Then, on May 9th she unexpectedly became a single mother when her husband passed away. As of September 1st she has health insurance but the bills from March through September are astronomical. Additionally, her bone marrow transplant will cost in the neighborhood of $800,000 and her insurance will only cover $350,000 of this cost. This fundraising effort is to raise money for her medical expenses related to her treatment and bone marrow transplant.
