Brette Dostal, 39
Husband and Father
Langerhaus Cell Histiocytosis
Brette has been diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia called Langerhans Cell Disease. It affects 1 in 1.5 million people and is affecting his bones and skin, and is an auto-immune disease. He hasn’t been feeling good for about 3 years when after a surgery on a pineal cyst in August 2012 that didn’t heal, his surgeon took out a mass of tissue and sent it in to be looked at and it came back as cancer.
Brette’s disease is very rare and his oncologist here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa didn’t know enough about it, so he sent him to Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA to see a specialists that known about Brette’s type of cancer. Brette started chemotherapy treatments on December 14th and is currently still receiving chemotherapy. He will return to Boston, MA on February 12th and then back to Cedar Rapids for 6 more months of chemotherapy. It has been a long road but with amazing friends and family and God’s healing power we will get through this and come out strong in the end.
