Melissa Reichert

Breast Cancer
Married Mother of 2

Melissa Reichert is a married mom of two beautiful girls and lives in Huntington Beach, California. Melissa is a beloved kindergarten teacher at her neighborhood elementary school. Unfortunately, during her battle she had to take half of the year off. This was a painful decision, since teaching is not only her job, but her passion. Melissa is highly involved
in her church, school and neighborhood. Please support her in this cause, so her main focus can remain her family and her health.

My Story-
In mid-October 2011, I felt a lump. Not thinking much of it I ignored it until my next doctor’s appointment which was thankfully in November. The nurse felt the lump and said, “I don’t think it is anything but you can get a mammogram if you want.” Thankfully, again time did not get away from me and I scheduled the test. That came back inconclusive and more tests were ordered. When the biopsy was performed in late November, I knew my life would never be the same. The nurse thankfully was honest and upfront with me when I asked. She gave me a side hug and said, “Get a double mastectomy,
often times I see people back here within 10 years.” It was like a punch in the gut, but I knew that God choose this path for me for a reason, and I was willing to fight this fight along side Him.

On December 1, 2012 I received my official diagnosis, stage 2+ HER2 breast cancer. I have currently completed 6 rounds of chemo and have had a double mastectomy. In the next few days I will start 25 days straight of radiation in the far away city of Ontario. I still will receive the chemo drug of Herceptin every three weeks until December 2012. I have at least two surgeries ahead of me, a complete hysterectomy and my breast reconstruction. I plan to return back to the classroom in September as I carry the insurance for our family. I also miss it so much!

Thank you for supporting myself and my family on this journey. We appreciate all of the support and prayers passed on our way.

God Bless and Fight on!
